Keeping plants healthy is a global priority and a number of stakeholders are involved. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) conducts pests risk assessment and delivers scientific advice to policy-makers in the European Union (EU). The European Commission supports plant health with the necessary rules and regulations and assists EU Member States in preparing for future phytosanitary threats. The European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) is responsible for cooperation and harmonization in plant protection within the Euro-Mediterranean region. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations strives to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, and protect the environment.
